When installing a ceiling fan, you are undoubtedly making a great decision for your home, for the planet and for your wallet. The average ceiling fan uses the same amount of energy per hour as the humble lightbulb, making it way more eco-friendly than an air-con and way less expensive too.
However, these humble cooling creatures still need to be installed correctly. Believe it or not, there are some ceiling fan placement mistakes to avoid. Take a look below.
Not High Enough
Ceiling fans should be mounted at least 7 feet from the floor, to accommodate the tall folk in your life and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries. Whilst the myth that a ceiling fan can decapitate someone is entirely false, it is still terribly unpleasant to be hit by the flying blades. Mounting your ceiling fan at least 7 feet from the ground is your best bet. Where this isn’t possible, consider stand-alone fixtures instead.
Too Close to the Wall
Another major fail is improperly measuring your space. Just like height can affect the effectivity of your ceiling fan, so can it’s distance from walls and other fixtures. We have witness ceiling fans that are too close to the walls (the ideal breadth being 18 inches) or better yet, being installed too close to doors so that the unit can only run when the door is open or closed, smashing into the frame if someone opens it while the fan is running. Can you believe it!
